18th-century furniture,
All civilizations
around the world
have always regarded
painting and sculpture
as important major arts.
During the reigns of kings of France
Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI,
and more specifically in Paris,
furniture also became a major art form.
In the 18th century,
artists and craftsmen surpassed themselves.
With cabinetmakers, seatmakers, bronze-makers,
and the great manufactures, furniture
enjoyed an exceptional destiny
for more than 100 years.

Under the influence of brilliant creators
such as Boulle, Cressent, B.V.R.B., Riesener, Jacob, Carlin and many others, new forms appeared, such as the commode, the writing desk, the bonheur-du-jour, the marquise, or the bergère, whose use is still relevant today.
Though fashion and taste
have evolved profoundly over the centuries, exceptional 18th-century furniture has retained its place of honour in the most distinguished residences to this day.
